Exploring the rugged Kaunertal valley

A four-star mountain hotel in Tyrol where glaciers, Alpine valleys and well-thought-out accessibility come together.

Nestled in the heart of the Austrian Alps, where the mountains meet the glacier-covered landscape, lies the Hotel Weisseespitze. For over thirty years, the Hafele family has been combining accessibility with alpine charm — without ever feeling like a care home. A truly memorable experience for the whole family.

The place

Hotel Weisseespitze is situated in the hamlet of Platz, in the heart of the Kaunertal (Tyrol), amidst an impressive mountain landscape where mountains, glaciers and Alpine valleys meet — an ideal base for nature lovers, whether or not they have reduced mobility.

It has been the Hafeles family’s hotel for generations and is now run by the third generation. Their motto, “Enjoy pleasure for life”, is evident everywhere: on the sun terrace with a

a cappuccino, whilst having a massage at the spa, or on your way to the mountain peaks that you can already see from your room.

The accommodation

Of the 78 spacious rooms, thirty are fully wheelchair-accessible, with level access to a balcony or terrace, adapted bathrooms and plenty of space to manoeuvre easily. The dining room, lounges and wellness facilities are also accessible — not only via the lift, but also via a unique ramp that connects all floors like a marble run, ensuring that everything remains accessible even if the lift breaks down.

Two real gems round it off: the world’s longest ‘rolli-bar’, where the barman stands in a sunken walkway at eye level with his seated guests, and an indoor and outdoor swimming pool with mountain views and a chairlift that you operate yourself — swimming without the help of others.

“Perfectly tailored, yet never feeling like a care home: here, everyone simply enjoys the same holiday — families, mountain bikers, wellness enthusiasts and motorcyclists.”

The activities

The whole region has been designed with accessibility in mind. The comprehensive Rolli-Road Book brings together all the ‘barrierefrei’ options in a clear and organised way, so that many barriers are removed in one go. And the best thing is: here, adventure knows no season.

Summer – walking, handcycling and Swiss-trac

Summer – walking, handcycling and Swiss-trac

With the Swiss-Trac, a powerful electric attachment, you can transform a manual wheelchair into an off-road companion capable of tackling even the steepest and roughest mountain trails. This makes panoramic viewpoints, nature parks and even mountain huts accessible. Handcycling through the valley is a popular alternative, and you can also book a Swiss-Trac in the nearby Kaunergrat Nature Park for some wonderful walks.

Winter – monoski, biski and sit-ski

Winter – monoski, biski and sit-ski

The adventure continues even in winter. On request, you can go monoskiing or biskiing, and in the valley there are accessible cross-country ‘sit-ski’ trails with access right next to the hotel. The Kaunertal thus proves that accessible nature experiences do not have to be seasonal.
